Pillow Series takes its title and inspiration from the entrapment of air within an enclosed space. Tactile in the sense that impressions remain from ones touch, ones grasp and ones hold - a different type of touch is initiated. Where Fluid and Massage series seek to explore a dynamic touch, Pillow Series explore a static touch. In the bowls and teapots, a hollow sphere is made as the starting point and then manipulated to a position whilst very plastic and wet, through the slow release of air. Plates include those with enclosed, hollow rims and ‘half’ spheres turned upside down. The convention of throwing upwards and outwards is questioned as this technique plays with downward pressure and a deliberate ‘collapsing’ inward. |
